Katie Arrington, the Republican candidate who defeated Rep. Mark Sanford in his re-election bid, is expected to make a full recovery after being seriously injured in a car crash, according to a statement on her Facebook page Sunday night.
Ms. Arrington underwent two surgeries to address her injuries, including spinal cord impingement and instability, but both went “extremely well.”
“It is expected that Katie will remain in the hospital for the next two weeks and will make a full recovery,” the statement read.
Her doctors said that she will not suffer any neurological difficulties as a result of the crash. It is possible that Ms. Arrington may need an additional surgery, though the statement said it would be a “minimal procedure.”
Ms. Arrington and a friend were hit Friday night when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction crashed into their car. The driver of the other vehicle died at the scene.
President Trump, who endorsed Ms. Arrington, tweeted his support Saturday.
