The Washington Capitals made a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward Tom Wilson, Wilson’s agent told The Washington Times and the Capitals confirmed Monday.
The team also announced that center Travis Boyd and defenseman Madison Bowey, who both spent time at the NHL level last season, were also made qualifying offers.
However, the team did not make an offer to RFA forward Devante Smith-Pelly by Monday’s 5 p.m. deadline, meaning the new fan favorite and Stanley Cup Final folk hero became an unrestricted free agent. The two sides are still in negotiations for a new deal.
Smith-Pelly, 26, scored seven goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including three in the finals against Vegas, after scoring seven during the regular season.
Other teams can tender an offer sheet for Wilson and the Capitals’ other RFAs, but Washington has the ability to match that offer.
