NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Music fans in New Orleans are getting a new, multimillion-dollar venue for concerts and other live performances.
News outlets report that the Live Nation entertainment company plans to open The Fillmore at Harrah’s New Orleans in the second story of the city’s downtown casino sometime early next year. Company executives gave a tour of the construction site Thursday.
The music hall is expected to have a standing-room capacity of 2,200 people.
Ben Weeden, chief operating officer of Live Nation’s club and theater division, says the company plans to have roughly 60 concerts at the new venue in its first year of operation, with an emphasis on contemporary rock, rap and alternative acts.
The New Orleans club will be partially modeled on the original Fillmore West in San Francisco, an iconic rock venue that opened 50 years ago. Fillmore-branded venues already operate in Charlotte, Detroit, Philadelphia, Miami and other cities.
Live Nation also owns and operates the House of Blues chain.
