Donald Trump needles ‘Whacky Jacky,’ ‘Pocahontas’ in Nevada

President Trump on Saturday waded into the toss-up Senate race in Nevada, giving Democratic candidate Jacky Rosen the nickname “Whacky Jacky” and saying she wants to raise taxes and open the border.

“You can’t let Whacky Jacky do it. Remember a vote for her is a vote for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer,” Mr. Trump said in a speech to the Nevada Republican Party state convention in Las Vegas.

Mr. Trump also lauded incumbent Republican Sen. Dean Heller as a “tough cookie,” which is high praise from the president.

Ms. Rosen, a Congress member representing a district south of Las Vegas, said the attacks proved that Mr. Heller is a loyal Trump Republican.

“The President is attacking me with lies and petty insults because I’m not afraid to stand up to him,” she said. “Dean Heller has been a rubber stamp for Donald Trump in Washington, caving to the President’s divisive agenda at Nevada’s expense. This was Senator Heller’s reward for his loyalty.”

Mr. Trump credited Mr. Heller with fighting hard to get the tax cut bill passed. The tax cuts and the subsequent economic boost is the top campaign issue for Republicans this year.

“Over 3 million people recently got off food stamps because we’re doing so well. That’s a big number,” said Mr. Trump. “After years of stagnation wages are rising again and jobs are looking for people.”

The president repeatedly took aim at Ms. Rosen for saying that if elected she would work to repeal the tax cuts.

He noted that Ms. Rosen was campaigning in Nevada with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and liberal firebrand who is a favorite foil for the president.

“She’s in Nevada right now campaigning with Pocahontas,” he said, using the controversial nickname he gave the Ms. Warren because of her dubious claims to Native American ancestry.

“She’s with Elizabeth Warren, sometimes affectionately known as Pocahontas,” said Mr. Trump. “When you see that, that’s not the senator you want.”
