REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Five Redmond police detectives have been placed on administrative leave after the shooting death of a man at a Safeway gas station in Kirkland last week.
KOMO-TV reports the detectives placed on leave include every Redmond detective at the scene although it is unclear how many of them fired shots.
Redmond police said detectives were trying to arrest the 40-year-old Marcelo Castellano while he was fueling his pickup truck and he refused to cooperate. Shots were fired and he died at the scene.
Kirkland police have said Castellano had a gun, but did not specify where the weapon was located or whether he had reached for it.
Kirkland police said previously that the officers who shot Castellano were investigating him for drug crimes and had probable cause for his arrest.
