BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Bismarck hospital has turned to a staffing agency for its emergency department after contract negotiations with physicians fell through.

CHI St. Alexius Health says it couldn’t reach a deal with the nine doctors “after weeks of efforts,” and has signed a deal with HealthSource effective July 1. HealthSource will be contacting current doctors to discuss keeping them on.

The hospital says the change won’t affect its Level 2 Trauma Center status.

The Bismarck Tribune reports the announcement comes about a week after medical staff on hospital leadership committees stepped down again from their board positions as talks with Catholic Health Initiative executives fell through.

Members of those committees had resigned earlier when they felt concerns over employee morale and patient safety weren’t being addressed by hospital system administration.
