CHICAGO (AP) - The father of a teenager shot to death by a Chicago police officer in 2015 took the stand in his wrongful death lawsuit to contradict the officer’s testimony.

Antonio LeGrier wept Thursday as he talked about the death of 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier. The father called 911 seeking help with his bat-wielding son.

Officer Robert Rialmo said the teen held the bat over his head and swung it after barreling down the apartment steps. Rialmo also testified Wednesday Antonio LeGrier told him after the shooting, “You did what you had to do.”

The father denied he said that.

Rialmo testified Wednesday he was on the walkway between the porch and the sidewalk when he fired and that he backpedaled as he shot. Rialmo also killed bystander Bettie Jones.

A forensic pathologist has testified LeGrier’s wounds were inconsistent with Rialmo’s claims. A Chicago police disciplinary body has ruled Rialmo was unjustified in the shooting and recommended his firing.
