FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts State Police say a 15-year-old driver nearly struck a police cruiser before crashing into a utility pole.

Authorities say a trooper was stopped at a crash on Route 495 in Raynham on Wednesday morning when a passing car nearly struck his vehicle. The trooper pursued the suspect into Mansfield as the car travelled over 100 mph.

Authorities say a few minutes after the police decided to end the chase, troopers in Foxboro and local police responded to a crash.

Authorities say the suspect in the chase, a 15-year-old Stoughton boy, had crashed into a utility pole. The boy was taken into custody and treated for injuries at Boston Medical Center.

State police say they recovered a handgun at the scene.

The teen will face charges.
