BIXBY, Okla. (AP) - Officials in a city outside Tulsa are discussing telling a public utilities commission to reject a proposed $4.5 billion wind power line after residents raised resistance against the project.
The Tulsa World reports that Bixby City Council is meeting Monday to explore options in approaching the Oklahoma Corporation Commission about dismissing Public Service Company of Oklahoma’s application for pre-approval of the Wind Catcher Connection power line.
At least 200 people attended a council meeting two weeks ago to oppose a proposed route that would take the 380-mile (611.5-kilometer) power line across south Tulsa County and through western Bixby.
The meeting resulted in a letter of opposition by the city attorney, which was approved June 11. The council is now discussing options, including possibly hiring attorneys for the city.
PSO says it’s working to help Bixby residents understand the project’s benefits.
