BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has paid a $1,500 ethics fine for taking too long to disclose the free hotel room and transportation he received to attend a conference in Miami.
The Louisiana Board of Ethics approved the consent order outlining the ethics violation Friday. The Democratic former mayor agreed to the penalty for filing a required disclosure statement six days later than required.
Louisiana law requires public officials to file affidavits with the ethics board if they receive lodging and transportation for an educational or professional development seminar.
The ethics board says Landrieu attended an annual conference hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Aspen Institute and The Atlantic in Miami in October 2016. The board says the Aspen Institute paid nearly $1,400 for Landrieu’s hotel and transportation costs.
