LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Maine officials are calling for peace in Lewiston following a bloody park brawl that led to one man’s death.
The Sun-Journal reports city leaders and religious organizations gathered Sunday at City Hall to address escalating violence.
Thirty-eight-year-old Donald Giusti, of Lewiston, died Friday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center. Giusti was critically injured at Kennedy Park last week during a fight between two groups.
Maine Community Integration Executive Director Fowsia asked police to address violence against the city’s immigrant community and perceived ethnic tensions.
Lewiston Police Lt. David St. Pierre says the department is still trying to determine if the fight was racially motivated.
No arrests have been made. Maine State Police are assisting Lewiston police with the investigation.
