NEW YORK (AP) - Graduation season is going to the dogs.
Twelve counterterrorism dogs and their human partners have graduated from the New York Police Department’s academy.
The dogs were in training for months, and will now go to work using their sense of smell to look out for explosive material at various venues.
The dozen dogs were named in honor of members of the NYPD and the U.S. military who died in the line of duty.
The NYPD says family and friends of the fallen officers were among those at Friday’s graduation event.
