COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Insurance companies say they have received more than 12,000 claims for damage to vehicles and houses in Colorado Springs after the city’s worst hail storm in 20 years.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Thursday the storm also damaged about 250,000 square feet (about 23,000 square meters) of roof at Pikes Peak Community College.

Hail up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) in diameter struck the area early Wednesday.

No injuries were reported despite the ferocity of the storm.

The Army said officials were still inspecting roofs, lights, solar panels and military vehicles at Fort Carson, just southwest of Colorado Springs.
