OPINION:
President Donald Trump, in a somewhat freewheeling interview on Friday with Fox News’ Steve Doocy, told the watching and listening cable news audience that he’s clearly beaten many of the political world’s entrenched players at their own game.
Moreover — he’s not hiding his pride in accomplishment. Nor should he.
After all: Isn’t this what voters have complained about for years, the presence of a political ruling class that sets itself above the law, beyond the touch of voter backlash?
“I’m actually proud because I beat the Clinton dynasty,” he said, Mediaite noted. “I beat the Bush dynasty. Now I guess, hopefully, I’m in the process of beating very dishonest intelligence because what they did was incredible. And a real insult to millions of people that voted in that election.”
He was talking about James B. Comey, former FBI director, and the revelations that have come to light about the agency’s soft walk treatment of Hillary Clinton.
The rhetoric followed his early morning tweet: “The IG Report is a total disaster for Comey, his minions and sadly, the FBI. Comey will now officially go down as the worst leader, by far, in the history of the FBI. I did a great service to the people in firing him. Good instincts. Christopher Wray will bring it proudly back!”
That remains to be seen.
But what doesn’t is Trump’s uncanny knack for coming from beneath the pile of media, leftist and — yes — Deep State-type attacks with new buoyancy and bravado. It’s something the left hates. But it’s something that’s making the political climate one of the most interesting in years — not to mention, one of the most beneficial for the patriotic Make America Great Again-types, as well.
