The Washington Capitals broke a record for Stanley Cup merchandise sold, according to the league’s official retailer.

The Pittsburgh Penguins previously held the record, set in 2016 after the team beat the San Jose Sharks to win the Stanley Cup.

Fanatics, the NHL’s official e-commerce handler and merchandise provider of the locker room apparel for the Stanley Cup Final, started tracking data in the mid-2000s.

The Capitals are the only hockey team to land in the top 10 of championship gear sold for the company, a Fanatics spokesman said.

According to Sports Business Daily, Stanley Cup merchandise sales are up 25 percent from last year, when the Penguins beat the Nashville Predators. Online sales also increased by 130 percent.

The Fanatics spokesman said the locker room apparel — the shirts and hats the Capitals donned immediately after winning the Cup — are “far and away” the top-selling items.
