ASHBURN — Speaking to reporters for the first time since his right knee surgery, Redskins left tackle Trent Williams said Wednesday he expects to be ready “before” training camp.
Williams had surgery in late December. He has missed all of the Redskins’ OTAs, but said he’s been able to work out.
Williams still needs to resume “football activity,” though said he’s “very close.”
The Redskins begin training camp July 26.
“It’s cool,” Williams said. “Obviously being around the team is uplifting because you’ve got a lot of guys, a lot of personalities. Never a dull moment. Obviously the last five months I’ve been in a cave, just rehabbing, trying to get as close to the normal as possible.
“It’s my first time ever rehabbing from the surgery so I took it extremely seriously. Being back with these guys, it’s definitely uplifting.”
Williams played most of last season with torn ligaments in his knee and missed six games.
“Football activity and being working out and working on strength and running and stuff is two totally different things,” he said. “You don’t really know how football is going to feel until you play football, but I’m back to doing pretty much everything I was doing before.”
