LAS VEGAS (AP) - The top prosecutor in Las Vegas has won re-election in a winner-take-all primary over his lone challenger, a fellow Democrat.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson defeated criminal defense attorney Robert Langford in countywide voting on Tuesday.

Wolfson became the winner outright with no opponent from another party seeking the seat in November.

Wolfson was a criminal defense attorney and Las Vegas City Council member before he was appointed district attorney in January 2012 after the resignation of his predecessor. He easily won a four-year term in 2014.

He faced a surprise challenge from criminal defense lawyer Robert Langford after the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Wolfson declined to prosecute his top campaign aide and kept her on the county payroll after she returned $42,000 pilfered from his 2014 campaign.
