MOUNT VERNON, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri lawmaker who posted a Facebook video last year of himself decapitating and butchering a chicken to make a point about one of last year’s special sessions has a primary challenger.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Mt. Vernon School District employee Karen Echols is describing herself as a more moderate alternative to Republican Rep. Mike Moon.

Moon posted the chicken video after former Gov. Eric Greitens called lawmakers back to the Capitol a second time after their regular session adjourned.

Greitens had described the second special session, which was to pass tougher abortion laws, as the cancellation of “summer vacation” for lawmakers. Moon remarked on the video that he was “in the middle of” his summer job processing chickens.

Moon says Echols is too liberal for the district.
