Washington Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder is looking to have a breakout season. Last year, the Duke product had a solid season with 66 receptions for 789 yards. Crowder wants to be more of a focal point in the offense and knows that he can improve.
“I just want to get better in all phases man,” Crowder said after Tuesday’s minicamp session. “I definitely want to be a little more productive on the offensive end and get those catches up as well as more yards.”
Crowder’s best season in the NFL was his second year in which he posted a career high in catches, yards, and touchdowns. Crowder is setting the bar high for the 2018 season in an effort to match these totals.
“My goal this year is to score seven touchdowns,” Crowder said. “I did that in my second year and it was a solid season. I just want to be more productive all across the board.”
With the acquisition of quarterback Alex Smith, the Redskins’ offense will be lead by a battle-tested veteran. Smith has a calming presence that has endeared him to the team, especially Crowder.
“I like his leadership and he’s a veteran,” Crowder said. “He knows how to read defenses and that can definitely help our offensive unit.”
Crowder dealt with a nagging hamstring issue last season that may have lingered into the offseason. Redskins coach Jay Gruden believes Crowder is fully healthy and ready for the start of the season.
“He looks great,” Gruden said. “No issues whatsoever. Very precise in what he is doing. Strong hands as usual, plays a lot bigger than his size. No issues as far as health is concerned.”
After last year’s 7-9 season, the Redskins look poised to bounce back with a revamped offense and stingy defense. They’ll look to start the season off strong with a win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.
