OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin says powerful special interests are spending millions of dollars trying to defeat her “because they want a bought and paid for senator.”
Baldwin did not mention her Republican opponents in her speech to about 1,500 Democratic activists at the state party convention Friday in Oshkosh. She is being challenged by Republican state Sen. Leah Vukmir and Delafield businessman Kevin Nicholson.
More than $10 million has been spent by outside interests against Baldwin and to support Nicholson in the race.
Baldwin the fight over special interest power is really what’s at stake in her election. She says they want to defeat her because she stands up for the interests of regular Wisconsin residents.
Baldwin says she will fight for lowering prescription drug prices, combat opioid abuse, protecting former President Barack Obama’s health care law, helping Wisconsin workers with buy America requirements and protecting Medicare and social security from cuts.
