President Trump touted an optimistic outlook on the U.S.-North Korea relationship on Monday, while criticizing China during the ongoing trade war.

Mr. Trump insisted that Chairman Kim Jong Un will uphold the Singapore summit agreement. He also accused China of possibly influencing the smaller Asian country.

North Korea accused the U.S. of strong-arming negotiations on Saturday, after Secretary of State Michael Pompeo’s quick trip to hammer out denuclearization details. The country said America was making “gangster-like” demands, according to Associated Press reports.

On the other hand, Mr. Pompeo said the visit was productive.

“These are complicated issues but we made progress on almost all of the central issues. Some places a great deal of progress, other places there’s still more work to be done,” he said, according to U.S. pool reports.

Thursday, the U.S. and China officially engaged in a tit-for-tat trade war, with each side slapping the other with massive tariffs.
