Former Capitals assistant Lane Lambert was hired Thursday as the New York Islanders’ associate coach — reuniting with Barry Trotz.
Lambert has spent the last seven seasons under Trotz. He was hired in 2011 and coached three seasons in Nashville. After Trotz was fired by the Predators, Lambert followed Trotz to the Capitals.
Lambert’s contract with the Capitals expired at the end of the season, and so he was free to look for another job.
Trotz was named head coach of the Islanders on June 21, three days after he resigned from the Capitals over a contract dispute.
