Former MSNBC host and liberal commentator Ed Schultz has died at age 64.

Mr. Schultz died Thursday at his home in D.C., according to RT America, where he was the host of “The News With Ed Schultz.”

A report by the Fargo-based WDAY, where Mr. Schultz used to work as sports director, originally said the broadcaster died at his home near Detroit Lakes in Minnesota.

Multiple reports said Mr. Schultz died from natural causes. RT America said Mr. Schultz’s family has asked for privacy during this time.

“We are devastated by the news of the sudden death of our brilliant anchor, one of the best TV-Journalists in America, Ed Schultz,” RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said in a statement. “When the campaign against RT America began and the channel was forced to register as a foreign agent, Ed set an example for all of us, saying: ’Let them call me what they want, I am going to speak the truth no matter what.’”
