Wisconsin schools superintendent and Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Tony Evers is about to launch his first television campaign ad.
Evers is one of eight Democrats running for governor. Voters will winnow the field to one candidate in an Aug. 14 primary. That candidate will face Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the November general election.
The ad features Evers addressing a group of people. He promises to invest in children and Wisconsin workers rather than giving hand-outs to Foxconn Technology Group. Walker signed a bill last year that gave the Taiwanese electronics giant an unprecedented incentive package to build a plant in Mount Pleasant.
Evers also touts that he’s a former teacher and now the schools superintendent.
The ad is set to run statewide beginning Tuesday.

Wisconsin schools Superintendent Tony Evers plans to seek an unprecedented increase in special education funding in the next state budget.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Evers wants $969 million in special education funding, up 163 percent from the current $369 million.
Evers is one of eight Democrats running for governor. His budget request comes less than three weeks before an Aug. 14 primary that will winnow the field to one. That candidate will face Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November.
Evers and Walker both have been working to portray themselves as the most pro-education candidates. Walker has touted increases in school funding, voucher school expansion and a University of Wisconsin System tuition freeze. Evers said last week he wants an additional $60 million for mental health services in schools.
