Former All-NBA center Dwight Howard will reportedly sign a deal with the Washington Wizards.
Citing “league sources,” the website the Athletic said the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to buy out the seven-footer and onetime league MVP’s contract and put him on waivers.
Once he clears waivers, according to The Athletic, he will sign a one-year $5.4 million deal with Washington.
Counting the Nets, who acquired him from the Charlotte Hornets last month, the Wizards will be Howard’s eighth team in eight seasons.
Last season in Charlotte, Howard put up decent numbers — 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game — but didn’t fit in well with the Hornets offense.
In Washington, he will plug right in as the Wizards traded a traditional seven-foot post-up center — Marcin Gortat — to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this off-season. The Wizards can sign Howard under the taxpayer mid-level exception, The Athletic reported.
