President Trump said Sunday he met with New York Times’ publisher Arthur Gregg Sulzberger and discussed “Fake News.”

“Had a very good and interesting meeting at the White House with A.G. Sulzberger, Publisher of the New York Times. Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, “Enemy of the People.” Sad!” Mr. Trump tweeted Sunday morning.

The New York Times issued a statement in response to the president’s tweet, acknowledging the two met earlier this month for an off the record meeting.

Mr. Sulzberger said he met with the president to express concern of his “anti-press rhetoric.”

“I told the president directly I thought his language was not just divisive but increasingly dangerous,” Mr. Sulzberger said.

Mr. Sulzberger became publisher of the paper in January of 2018, succeeding his father.
