CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - An assistant to New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has been nominated by President Donald Trump as the next federal co-chair of a commission that helps with economic development in northern New England and New York.

Sununu said he had recommended Harold Parker as co-chair of the Northern Border Regional Commission. Parker has been special assistant to Sununu for intergovernmental affairs.

The commission has provided more than $30 million in funding projects since it was created a decade ago and provided 155 grants in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and upstate New York.

The projects have been credited with creating hundreds of jobs, bolstering tourism and keeping businesses in economically depressed rural areas open.
