GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say inmates at the Cascade County Detention Center rioted for about four hours, causing thousands of dollars in damages.

A statement by Sheriff Bob Edwards says nobody was injured in the riot that began late Saturday morning.

Edwards says the sheriff’s SWAT team and the detention center’s cell extraction team were called out and that pepper spray was used to quell the rioters.

There are 43 inmates housed in the pod. It wasn’t immediately clear how many people participated in the riot or what caused it.

Edwards estimates that more than $10,000 in damage was done to cameras, sprinkler heads, ceiling tiles and cell doors.

The sheriff said he is declining interviews until he has more information.

The detention center was in lockdown Saturday afternoon.
