A woman and her adult son have died in a house fire in north suburban Denver.

Firefighters found 95-year-old Lorraine Cowan and 68-year-old Stephen Ringenberg in their house in Arvada early Friday after responding to a report of smoke in the neighborhood.

Ringenberg died at the scene while his mother was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Arvada Fire Protection District Michelle Cherniske told The Denver Post that 95 percent of reports of bad odors don’t lead to fires but firefighters searched the neighborhood until they saw fire and smoke coming from a window in the home.
