RICHMOND — Last season, Redskins cornerback Josh Norman held weekly gatherings at his house every Thursday for the rest of the defense. The meetings trailed off near the end of the season, but they were a way for the group to bond and relax away from the field.

Now for this upcoming season, Norman has already made a new friend: Derrius Guice.

Norman said he’s trying to mentor the rookie running back.

“That’s my little buddy,” said Norman, who has been with the Redskins since 2016. “We hang out. I try to keep him on the straight and narrow. So yeah, he is definitely going to come around, and he is going to show some people out. He really is.

“He is so eager to learn. He is just like a kid, energy all day, like an energy ball.”

The Redskins drafted Derrius Guice with the 59th pick in the second round amid rumors over the LSU product’s character, which caused him to be selected much later than initially predicted.

But so far, those concerns haven’t materialized to the Redskins. Guice has done plenty of work in the community — such as renting out a movie theater screening for fans — and his family, buying his mom a new car. On Friday, Guice spent 45 minutes after practice signing autographs.
