NEW YORK (AP) - A funeral service will be held Saturday for longtime New York politician and power broker Guy V. Molinari.

The Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church on Staten Island. Calling hours will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the Matthew Funeral Home.

Molinari died on Wednesday at the age of 89.

The lifelong Staten Island resident served as a state assemblyman and five-term congressman in the 1980s. He was also borough president.

State Republican Chairman Ed Cox remembers Molinari as a “fierce Marine” and a dedicated public servant.

Molinari was the first New York City politician to endorse Rudy Giuliani for mayor, but also feuded with him and other fellow Republicans.

At one time he even challenged a city councilman to a fistfight.
