Late-night comedian Seth Meyers and former “Saturday Night Live” comedian Amy Poehler took turns Wednesday night roasting former FBI Director James Comey for giving “unsolicited advice” to Democrats going into the midterm elections.
Mr. Comey, whom many Democrats still blame for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 election loss, was ruthlessly mocked on social media over the weekend after he warned Democrats not to “rush to the socialist left.”
Democrats, please, please don’t lose your minds and rush to the socialist left. This president and his Republican Party are counting on you to do exactly that. America’s great middle wants sensible, balanced, ethical leadership.

On Wednesday’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the host and Ms. Poehler took Mr. Comey to task in a segment called “Really!?! With Seth & Amy.”
“Really, James Comey? You want to weigh in on things when there’s an election coming up?” Mr. Meyers said. “You feel like that’s gone well for you in the past? That’s like Michael Jordan saying, ’I think I’m gonna take another shot at baseball.’”
“Really, James Comey?” Ms. Poehler chimed in. “You’re worried the Democrats are going to move too far to the left, really? I don’t know if you remember, but we were just about to have a nice, boring moderate Democrat for a president until you decided to open your mouth the week before the election, you big dumb scarecrow! And as far as I’m concerned, the Democrats can vote for a bong in the shape of Che Guevara and you got nothing to say about it!”
“You’re telling Democrats not to lose their minds?” Mr. Meyers added. “I don’t know if you noticed, but the party in power is locking babies in cages, the president talks about Vladimir Putin the way Jay Z talks about Beyonce and the White House has more employee turnover than a Dairy Queen in September. I’ll take your political advice as soon as I’m done with my Jeffery Dahmer cookbook and my Harvey Weinstein fitness tapes.”
“James, I get it,” Ms. Poehler continued. “You feel guilty and you don’t want history to remember you as the guy who opened the door for the death of democracy. I don’t blame you, really. But the idea of you playing adviser to the Democratic Party is kind of like the iceberg trying to join the crew of the Titanic.”
Mrs. Clinton and her supporters remain bitter toward Mr. Comey for announcing he was reopening the investigation into her private email server less than two weeks before the 2016 election. The twice-failed presidential candidate has repeatedly blamed the former FBI director for her loss to President Trump.
Last week, Mr. Comey, a former Republican, was rejected by several Clinton allies after he called on Americans to elect Democrats in November.
