President Trump’s recent Twitter warning to Iran came as a shock to me (“Trump steps up pressure, but Iran says it’s ’unimpressed,’” Web, July 24). I am amazed that we, the United States of America, would be willing to start an all-out war over a simple threat.

The United States is not like other countries, as we have some of the most sophisticated firepower in the world. With this power comes a great responsibility to avoid, not promote, war and bloodshed. In light of this, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, has been warning against a potential World War III. He advised: “Let us fulfill our obligations and join together. Rather than grouping together in opposing blocs, we should all unite and cooperate with one another. We have no other viable option left because if a full-fledged third world war occurs then the resulting devastation and trail of destruction is unimaginable. No doubt we will then consider the wars of the past to have been quite minor in comparison.”

I ask my fellow Americans to pray for Mr. Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. May God protect us from all an all-out third world war, the likes of which very few will ever see.
