A day after not running out a bunt in the Washington Nationals’ loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, shortstop Trea Turner will not play for the Nationals on Tuesday night.

Manager Dave Martinez foreshadowed the decision Monday night when he told reporters there was “a good chance he won’t play tomorrow,” ostensibly as a punishment.

The Nationals also made Bryce Harper a late scratch for Tuesday’s game. After he was announced in the original lineup batting third and playing center field, the team announced a revised lineup in which Michael A. Taylor would take his place in center and Juan Soto was bumped up to the third spot in the order.

The team did not disclose a reason why Harper would not play before the game.

Washington is playing the Brewers in the middle game of a three-game series before heading to division rival Miami on the weekend.
