ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Oakland University has hired Steven Waterfield as its new athletic director.
The school announced the move Tuesday. Waterfield arrives after serving as an executive associate AD at Nebraska.
Waterfield replaces Jeff Konya, who left in February for Northeastern.
“I am honored and humbled to join the Oakland University family, and I am incredibly grateful to President (Ora Hirsch) Pescovitz for her confidence in me,” Waterfield said in a statement. “Together, we will provide a transformative student-athlete experience; we will compete for championships; we will graduate our students; and we will strengthen the connection with the university and with the community.
“My family and I cannot wait to be a part of an incredible Oakland community and I look forward to getting started.”
Waterfield joined Nebraska in August 2013. Prior to that, he spent two years as a senior administrator at Miami and seven years at Wisconsin. He also served five years as an assistant director for compliance at Ohio State. Waterfield, who holds a law degree, has also worked as an assistant attorney general in the Ohio attorney general’s office.
“I think the world of Steve,” Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos said. “A proven professional who will be an outstanding athletic director. His years of experience coupled with his genuine care for the student-athlete will serve Oakland University well.”
