NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - French Open champion Simona Halep has accepted a wild card into the upcoming Connecticut Open, the final tune-up on the WTA Tour before the U.S. Open.
The world’s top-ranked player will be making her fourth appearance in New Haven.
She says she decided to enter the tournament in part because the courts and conditions are like those in New York.
Halep won her first grand-slam title at Roland Garros and has reached four other finals this season.
The Connecticut Open runs Aug. 17-25 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
