Johnny Manziel’s career in the Canadian Football League took a surprising turn Sunday as the former Heisman winner was traded from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to the Montreal Alouettes.

Now, Manziel will be reunited with his former Texas A&M coach (and current Alouette coach), Mike Sherman.

Manziel will join the last-place Alouettes, who have had subpar play at quarterback. That should be good news for Manziel, who rode the bench with Hamilton.

In a statement, Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed said,”with his great mobility, his athletic abilities and his instinct we believe [Manziel] will have a positive impact on our offence.”

The 25-year-old is trying to restart his NFL career, so he joined the CFL on a two-year deal in May.

A first-round pick in the 2014 draft, Manziel had a disastrous stint with the Cleveland Browns. He was eventually released in 2016 after a number of scandals.
