AUBURNDALE, Fla. (AP) - A freight train in Florida struck and killed a man who was reportedly sitting on the train tracks.
The Ledger of Lakeland reported that a CSX train hit the man late Saturday night. The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
The two-engine train had 47 cars filled with rocks and 11 cars carrying new automobiles.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office told the newspaper that the engineer and conductor said they said they saw the man sitting on a railroad tie on the tracks. The engineer honked the horn and initiated an emergency stop but the man never moved off the tracks.
Carrie Horstman with the sheriff’s office said that multiple efforts were being made to positively identify the man and an autopsy will be conducted Monday.
