LAS VEGAS (AP) - A dust storm swept into the Las Vegas area Saturday, severely reducing visibility as forecasters warned that thunderstorms would damage trees and roofs.

The National Weather Service reported that winds of up to 40 mph (64.37 kph) with gusts up to 50 mph (80 kph) accompanied the wall of dust, which was reducing visibility to a quarter-mile .25 mile (.4 kilometer).

A severe thunderstorm warning issued for Lake Mead and other areas southeast of Las Vegas said radar indicated that wave heights could reach 4 feet (1 meter).

The warning urged boaters and others to get away from the water and to move indoors or into a vehicle.
