BOSTON (AP) - State labor officials say Massachusetts added an estimated 21,400 jobs last month while the June unemployment rate held steady at 3.5 percent.

Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Rosalin Acosta also said Friday that the percentage of residents choosing to be part of the state’s labor force has reached its highest level in 10 years.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that Massachusetts has gained more than 63,000 jobs in the past 12 months.

The state’s June unemployment rate, which is calculated separately from the jobs report, was a half point lower than the U.S. rate of 4 percent.
