SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - State police say a city officer and two suspects have been hurt in a confrontation in eastern South Carolina.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said a Summerville police officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle sometime prior to 3 a.m. Friday.

Berry said the white, male officer spotted the vehicle and got out of his patrol car and started walking toward the other car. Berry said the vehicle accelerated and hit the officer, who fired and hit the two black males inside.

The car crashed a short distance away. Berry said all three people were taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The names of those involved have not been released yet.

SLED is investigating.
