PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Several Maine airports are getting money from the Federal Aviation Administration to make repairs and improvements.
The airports vary in size, and include Portland International Jetport, which is getting nearly $3.9 million to reconstruct existing pavement that is no longer useful. The jetport also plans to expand an area for planes near a terminal and improve a taxiway.
The other airports and the state of Maine are getting about $3 million. Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree says the money going to the state is going to allow for a state system plan to evaluate the existing network of airports.
Other airports getting money to make improvements are in Biddeford, Brunswick, Owls Head, Sanford, Wiscasset and Waterville. The largest is a grant of more than $700,000 for Knox County Regional Airport.
