VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city is giving pay raises to its top elected officials and to municipal employees.
The Vicksburg Post reports that the Vicksburg mayor and aldermen approved the raises Friday, and the plan took effect Sunday.
Mayor George Flaggs Jr. and aldermen Michael Mayfield and Alex Monsour are receiving a 5 percent raise. Flaggs’ salary increases from $98,123 to $103,028. The aldermen’s pay goes from $78,278 to $82,191.
Most city employees are receiving a 3 percent across-the-board raise. Firefighters are on a different pay system, and are receiving between 3 and 4 percent.
Flaggs says he asked city division leaders whether workers should receive raises of 2 percent this year and 2 percent next year. They opted for 3 percent this year, which is a less generous plan overall.
