Former film producer Harvey Weinstein faces new criminal charges after a third woman came forward with allegations, according to a statement released by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced three additional charges in Mr. Weinstein’s case. The Hollywood mogul is now facing another count of criminal sexual act in the first degree and two counts of predatory sexual assault, which is a Class A-II felony.
The new indictment involves a third woman, who is accusing Mr. Weinstein of engaging in oral sex with by force in July 2006. The two previous allegations occurred in 2004 and 2013.
“A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s Penal Law,” Mr. Vance said in the statement.
The new charges are added to the ones Mr. Weinstein is already facing from a May 2018 indictment of rape in the first and third degrees and criminal sexual act in the first degree.
Mr. Vance noted that the investigation is ongoing and called for additional witnesses to step forward.
“This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward. Our investigation continues. Mr. Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women, including actresses Rose McGowan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd. He was fired as co-chairman at Weinstein Co. and stepped down altogether in October. The public outcry against Mr. Weinstein sparked the #MeToo movement.
