HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted a Purdue University professor and his wife on fraud charges alleging they used federal grants to enrich themselves.
The indictment filed Thursday names 59-year-old Qingyou Han, director of the Purdue Center for Materials Processing Research in West Lafayette, and his wife, 51-year-old Lu Shao. It alleges they operated a company called Hans Tech that received more than $1.3 million in grants from the National Science Foundation between 2007 and 2014 and used the funds to buy a home and to pay salaries to their two minor children.
Prosecutors say the case resulted from an investigation by the foundation’s Office of Inspector General.
Court documents don’t list an attorney for Han and Shao who might comment on their behalf. They have no published phone number.
