A year ago, when newly elected and I spoke to you, France had just experienced a great political change. This year, your country has gone into a great upheaval with the popular uprisings that shook the country last January and continue across the country calling for the end of the religious dictatorship … and in recent days at the grand bazaar of Tehran and other major cities With my colleagues of different political sensibilities, we support the ideal and the hope of a true democracy for Iran that would put an end to the death penalty cruelly applied by this regime. [We support] a true democracy respecting the separation between religion and the state, true democracy ensuring full equality between women and men. That is why we invited President Maryam Rajavi to the National Assembly to listen to her analysis and support her initiatives for a free and democratic Iran.

As a woman politician, I welcome the prominent role of women in the Iranian resistance, and I salute the courage of these women who defy the regime’s repressive forces to support the aspirations of the Iranian people and their determination to see the era of democracy in Iran.
