Prankster Sacha Baron Cohen has received a dose of his own medicine, courtesy of conservative street artist Sabo.
The man who once created a “Greatest Groper” billboard during then-Sen. Al Franken’s #MeToo fiasco is taking aim at Showtime’s “Who Is America?”
Commuters in Los Angeles were greeted by a “stolen valor” sign early Monday morning.
“Sacha Baron Cohen Walks Away With a Hit…and a touch of stolen valor. Who Is America? Sat, 9pm. CBS,” the billboard reads.
Showtime is owned by CBS.
The anonymous artist, whose Twitter account has been suspended, told The Hollywood Reporter that he was inspired by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s story.
“My daughter and I were asked to travel across the country where Cohen (I presume) had heavily disguised himself as a disabled U.S. Veteran, fake wheelchair and all,” Mrs. Palin recently told her Facebook followers. “HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country.”
A list of well-known conservatives, including former Vice President Dick Cheney, were duped by Mr. Cohen into conducting interviews for the show.
The billboard is 40 feet across and 15 feet wide, THR added.
The sign can be seen near the corner of Beverly Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
Update: Showtime issued a statement on Monday contesting Mrs. Palin’s telling of events. It read in part: “Baron Cohen never presented himself as a veteran of the U.S. military to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin during the booking process or during the filming of her interview, and contrary to her claims he did not appear in a wheelchair. In both the interview with Governor Palin and the interview with Senator Sanders, he did not wear military apparel of any kind.”
