PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says two Rhode Island organizations will receive about $600,000 to help homeless veterans get jobs.
Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, said Friday that Operation Stand Down Rhode Island and Veterans, Inc. will both receive competitive federal grants from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide occupational training, job placement assistance and other employment services.
Operation Stand Down Rhode will receive $300,000 for its workforce reintegration programs.
Veterans Inc. will receive $309,000 to continue providing employment and training services to veterans in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
Reed says the organizations won the grants because they have effective programs that provide veterans with job training and other services and place them in viable, sustainable jobs.
The grants are from the department’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program.
