Rep. Steve Cohen suggested that anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok’s braving the ire of a congressional committee is akin to a U.S. serviceman who was wounded in service to the nation.
This week’s House hearing on Mr. Strzok’s behavior while investigating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified documents, along with biased personal texts during the agency’s Russia investigation, featured a peculiar moment regarding the Purple Heart.
“If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would. You deserve one,” the Tennessee Democrat said at one point.
Mr. Strzok was reassigned from the FBI’s Russia investigation for highly partisan messages he sent to his mistress, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
Republican Congressman Mark Meadows immediately voiced disgust for his colleague’s sentiment on social media, CNN reported.
“The notion that Peter Strzok deserves a ’purple heart’ is an insult to the honor, valor, and service of men and women who truly earned its recognition,” the North Carolina lawmaker tweeted Thursday.

Ms. Page is scheduled to testify in a closed-door session with Congress on Friday and Monday.
