ABC’s wildly popular, yet highly controversial “Roseanne” reboot has been nominated for two Emmy Awards despite its abrupt cancellation over a racially insensitive tweet by the show’s star, Roseanne Barr.

Laurie Metcalf — the actress who played Roseanne Conner’s sister, Jackie Harris, in the reboot and in the original series — will face off against Zazie Beetz, Alex Borstein, Aidy Bryant, Betty Gilpin, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Megan Mullally in the category for supporting actress in a comedy series.

The show was also nominated for outstanding multi-camera editing for a comedy series for the new season’s fifth episode, titled “Darlene V. David.”

Ms. Barr was widely condemned in May after she compared former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, who is black, to a “Planet of the Apes” character. She issued an apology and called it a “bad joke,” but the backlash was swift. Her reboot, which debuted to more than 27 million viewers, was canceled after just one season.

Weeks later, ABC announced a spinoff series based on the fictional Conner family, “The Conners,” which will not include Ms. Barr.

Ms. Metcalf, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman are expected to appear in that show.
